UX Designer

UX Designer

The ESS app is a (HRMS) Application, designed for MINDEF/SAF employees to apply for leave and submit claims, track tasks, and access employment relevant information.

The bois at our ORD parade

I want to eliminate cognitive loads and hidden bottlenecks in the data workflows.

FRICTION

The outdated visuals made the presented information confusing to navigate and understand, especially during the service application process.

MAIN ISSUES

Login: No external help links if login fails.

Home: Unorganised & inconsistent UI elements.

Leave Application: Poor user navigation.

Transport Application: Slow loading pages.

WHY IT MATTERS

Users would resort to using the NS Portal instead if the ESS app becomes too frustrating to use.

Present Design

Could leave & claim applications be made easier?

OBJECTIVES

To simplify and streamline the service application process.

CORE GOALS

1. Create a logical & intuitive login and application process.

2. Provide traceable and responsive application updates.

3. Create a feedback loop system between the user and developers.

Core Features

Users are guided step-by-step through the app's functions, allowing a faster, more confident start.

Application Service

Users select their specific leave type, enter the required details, verify, and then confirm their application.

Application Status

Users quickly monitor application status under ‘My Activity’ on the homepage, receiving prompt updates or notifications of required changes.

Feedback

Users can report vulnerabilities directly, improving app security and reliability, and providing a safer experience for all.

WHY THIS SOLUTION

The experience focuses on orienting the user to the services provided while ensuring their administrative needs are met at every step. From this, reliance on desktop software would decrease, improving quick accessibility and the ability to handle personnel employment matters.

TRADE OFF

It will negate the fragmented digital services currently in use and suggest the potential to allocate all resources to making the ESS an all-in-one, comprehensive HRMS platform for all MINDEF personnel.

TO BE IMPROVED

The ESS can consider incorporating a comprehensive calendar feature that enables all personnel to track and view the movements of each personnel member at both individual and organisational levels, further strengthening the management of various stakeholders throughout.

SUMMARY

This app redesign not only addresses the lacking clear navigation and understanding of the service application process but strived to improve the other complementary functionalities the app can provide to further enhance the ESS app's positionality as a robust HRMS platform.
